Which Microgreen Seeds Are Best for Beginners?

Radish is the best microgreen seed for a first tray. It germinates at 95%, is ready to cut in 6 to 8 days, and tolerates the watering mistakes everyone makes early on. Sunflower is the next easiest and gives the most weight per tray. If a first tray fails, it is almost always over-watering rather than the seed.

Easiest to start withRadish seeds95% germination, 6–8 days. Fast enough that problems show up before the tray is lost.
Fastest to harvestMustard seeds95%+ germination, 6–8 days. As quick as radish, with a sharper flavour.

Why Choose SAGreens Microgreen Seeds?

Microgreens are only as good as the seeds they grow from. Low-quality or old seeds produce weak, uneven growth — or fail to germinate at all. SAGreens sources and tests every batch before sale. Our seeds are grown organically, free of synthetic pesticides, non-GMO, and selected specifically for microgreen production — not repurposed garden seeds.

Batch-Tested Germination

Every lot is germination-tested. Sunflower 98%, radish 95%, broccoli 96%. You know what to expect before the first tray.

100% Non-GMO & Organic

No synthetic fertilisers, no pesticides, no herbicides. Grown using organic methods in Pune, Maharashtra.

Selected for Microgreens

Not repurposed garden seeds. Each variety is chosen for microgreen-specific traits: germination speed, flavour, stem strength, and shelf life.

Ships Across India

Delivery to Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Kochi, and all cities. Pune orders same or next day.

Fresh Stock Always

Seeds sold within 12 months of harvest. Stored in cool, dark conditions for maximum viability. Labelled with batch date.

Grown by Farmers

SAGreens was founded by Ajay Toradmal, from a three-generation farming family in Pune, Maharashtra. We grow what we sell and sell what we know.

Seed Comparison: Which to Choose?

These three are the usual starting point for Indian home growing. Radish is the fastest and the most forgiving, sunflower gives the most volume per tray, and broccoli is the one most people buy for its nutritional profile. Every variety we sell is listed with its own tested germination figure below.

Germination and Harvest Time for Every Variety

Germination is tested per variety rather than quoted as a single figure for the whole range. These are the numbers from each product page.

Buying Microgreen Seeds in Bulk?

Wholesale seed pricing starts at 500g per variety. Rates improve again from 1kg, and we quote separately from 5kg. The same untreated, germination-tested seed sold on this page is what ships in bulk \u2014 there is no separate commercial grade.

Our microgreen seed supplier page covers terms, GST invoicing and lot consistency, and the bulk buying guide works through how much seed a given weekly tray count actually needs. If you know your tray numbers rather than a weight, tell us that and we will work the quantity back from it.

How to Grow Microgreens from Seeds at Home (India)

Microgreens are the easiest crop you can grow at home in India. No garden needed — a kitchen shelf, windowsill, or small balcony is enough. The basic process is the same whether you live in humid Chennai or dry Delhi:

  1. 1Fill a shallow tray with pre-moistened cocopeat (2–3 cm deep)
  2. 2Spread seeds evenly — no overlapping
  3. 3Cover and keep in a dark, warm spot for 2–4 days (blackout phase)
  4. 4Move to indirect light. Water gently once or twice daily
  5. 5Harvest at 5–10 cm height by cutting just above the soil

Frequently Asked Questions

Which microgreen seeds are best for beginners in India?

Radish and sunflower seeds are the easiest. Radish germinates in 2–3 days and harvests in 6–8 days — fast, forgiving, and works in all Indian climates. Sunflower is slightly slower (7–10 days) but produces large, filling microgreens with a nutty flavour.

How long do microgreen seeds take to germinate in India?

In typical Indian conditions (22–35°C), most microgreen seeds germinate in 2–4 days. Warmer climates like South India or summer in North India speed up germination; AC rooms or North India winter slow it slightly.

Do I need to soak microgreen seeds before planting?

Soak sunflower seeds for 8–12 hours. Radish can be planted without soaking. Do not soak small seeds like broccoli or mustard — they become sticky. Soaking sunflower seeds reduces time to harvest by 1–2 days.

How many grams of seeds do I need per tray?

For a standard 10×20 inch tray: sunflower 100–120g, radish 25–30g, broccoli 10–15g. SAGreens sells seeds in 100g packs, with 500g and 1kg available on some varieties — enough for multiple growing cycles.

Does SAGreens ship microgreen seeds across India?

Yes. We ship to Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Kochi, Pune, and all Indian cities. Most orders arrive in 3–5 days. Pune orders same or next day.

What is the germination rate of SAGreens seeds?

Germination is tested per variety rather than quoted as one figure for the range. Across the catalogue it runs from 85% to 98%: sunflower is highest at 98%, broccoli 96%, radish and mustard 95%, pea shoots 92%+, and coriander, basil, spinach and beetroot 85%+. The tested figure for each seed is on its own product page and in the table above.

Where can I buy microgreen seeds online in India?

SAGreens ships microgreen seeds to every Indian state from our farm in Keshav Nagar, Mundhwa, Pune. You can order any variety on this page and pay online; delivery is charged at checkout by weight and pin code, and most metros receive orders in 3 to 5 business days. Nurseries and agricultural shops sell field vegetable seed, which is often fungicide-treated and unsuitable for microgreens eaten raw.

Which microgreen seeds germinate fastest?

Radish and mustard germinate fastest, showing in 2 to 3 days and reaching harvest in 6 to 8. Sunflower and wheatgrass follow at 7 to 10 days. The slowest in our range are coriander, basil and beetroot at 10 to 14 days. Speed matters most in hot months, because a shorter cycle means fewer days for mould to establish.

What is the price of microgreen seeds in India?

SAGreens microgreen seeds run from ₹50 to ₹360 per pack, depending on the variety and pack size. Wheatgrass is the cheapest entry at ₹50 for 100g and kohlrabi the most expensive at ₹360. Packs come in 20g, 25g and 100g. Each product page shows the current price; wholesale from 500g per variety is priced separately.

Can I buy microgreen seeds in bulk?

Yes. Wholesale starts at 500g per variety, improves again from 1kg, and is quoted individually from 5kg. The seed is identical to the retail packs on this page — there is no separate commercial grade. Tell us your weekly tray count rather than a weight and we will work the quantity back from it.

Are microgreen seeds different from regular vegetable seeds?

Yes, in one way that matters: microgreen seed is untreated. Field vegetable seed is frequently dressed with fungicide, often dyed pink, red or blue as a warning, and is meant for a plant grown to maturity in soil. A microgreen is harvested within days and eaten raw, so nothing gives a coating time to break down. Microgreen seed is also sold by germination rate and in quantities suited to dense sowing.

Which microgreen seeds are best for commercial growing?

Sunflower and pea shoots give the highest saleable weight per tray, at 98% and 92%+ tested germination. Radish and mustard turn over fastest at 6 to 8 days, which suits a weekly delivery round. Most commercial growers in India run a mix: one or two fast varieties for volume and broccoli for the customers who ask for it by name.
