Cocopeat Block for Microgreens

Compressed coir pith, the growing medium most microgreens are sown into. Soak a block in warm water and it breaks apart into a loose, crumbly medium that holds moisture without going waterlogged. This is unbuffered, high-EC cocopeat, so rinse it until the runoff is clear before you sow into it. Sold as a 1kg block or a 5kg block.

₹199 / 1kg block

Health Benefits

  • •Holds moisture without waterlogging, which is what bottom watering needs
  • •Inert, so it adds nothing a 7 to 14 day crop does not want anyway
  • •Compressed, so it stores in a cupboard and expands when you need it
  • •A coconut by-product rather than stripped peat bog
  • •Unbuffered and high-EC, so it needs rinsing and costs less than buffered stock

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this cocopeat buffered or low-EC?

No. This is unbuffered, high-EC coir pith, and it needs rinsing before you sow into it. Coir is processed in salt water and the pith carries sodium and potassium as a result, measured as electrical conductivity. High EC draws moisture away from seedling roots. Break the block up, rinse and drain until the runoff runs clear, and it behaves the same as buffered stock at a lower price. Our cocopeat guide explains the chemistry and the method.

How much cocopeat does one block make?

A block expands to many times its compressed volume once soaked. Our cocopeat guide measures a 650g block at roughly 8 to 9 litres of loose medium, so a 1kg block goes further again and a 5kg block is a season of trays for most home growers. Soak only what you need; the rest keeps compressed and dry.

What does cocopeat cost for microgreens in India?

₹199 for the 1kg block and ₹449 for the 5kg from SAGreens. Per tray it is a few rupees, which is why almost nobody sows microgreens into soil. Delivery is charged at checkout by weight.

How deep should cocopeat be in a microgreen tray?

Two to three centimetres, levelled flat before sowing. Deeper wastes medium and holds water the crop cannot use in a 7 to 14 day cycle. Shallower dries out between waterings. Level matters more than depth: small seed rolls into any dip and a tray sown into hollows comes up patchy.

Can I reuse cocopeat for a second crop of microgreens?

We do not recommend it. A spent tray carries root mass and whatever fungal spores were present, and microgreens are eaten raw. Our cocopeat guide sets out the risk in full. Spent cocopeat is excellent in garden beds or a compost heap, so it is not wasted.

Which block size should I buy?

The 1kg block if you are growing a tray or two a week, because it stores easily and you will use it before it matters. The 5kg block if you are sowing regularly or running a small commercial operation. The 5kg is over our 2kg courier table, so its delivery is quoted by message rather than priced at checkout.

Does cocopeat need fertiliser for microgreens?

No. Microgreen seed carries its own energy for the whole 7 to 14 day cycle, which is why an inert medium is the right choice rather than a drawback. Adding nutrients does nothing useful and feeds mould in humid weather.

Can I return a cocopeat block?

Within 7 days if it is unused and unopened, with the return courier paid by you. An opened block cannot be restocked. Full terms are on our return policy page.

Where can I buy cocopeat for microgreens near me?

Garden centres and nurseries in most Indian cities stock coir blocks, and plenty of them are fine. What you cannot usually tell at the counter is whether the block has been washed. Ours has not, and we say so, which at least tells you to rinse it. If there is nothing stocked near you, we ship from Pune across India. Our cocopeat guide covers what to check either way.

Can I buy cocopeat in bulk?

The 5kg block is the largest size listed. Above that, message us through our contact page with the quantity and your city and we will quote it, because the courier cost on bulk coir matters more than the coir does.
